NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx Director Christopher Mastromano announced today a new multimedia campaign to promote the hospital’s recent certification as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. The certificate, issued by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), means that patients under the age of 15 will receive the highest standards of treatment when it comes to advanced trauma care. Trauma remains the leading cause of death in American youth between the ages of one and fourteen.
This builds on Jacobi’s pioneering work on trauma care. Jacobi is already a Level I Adult Trauma Center for most of the Bronx and Southern Westchester, treating nearly 2,300 adult patients last year with 1,800 trauma admissions. The hospital also has one of New York State’s most powerful Fire Prevention Programs, Stand Up to Violence, which works to reduce gun violence in 49 cases.th47thand 43,rd Locations.
Consultations for Pediatric Level II designation began in December 2018 and official confirmation in March 2023. Already, approximately 300 pediatric patients have been treated and 187 in those who receive stress.
“New Yorkers deserve the highest level of care, and with this new certification, we’re helping to deliver it,” he said. Mayor of New York, Eric Adams. “Our new multimedia campaign will keep people up-to-date on the life-saving services Jacobi provides and help improve the health of residents of the Bronx and surrounding areas.”
“This is a big deal for all of the Bronx’s 1.4 million residents,” he said CEO Christopher Mastromano. Now that Jacobi is the only licensed Child Abuse Center in our state, our community needs to know they can count on us for emergency care no matter what.
Mr. Mastromano explained that this Level II Pediatric Trauma designation means that patients can expect round-the-clock specialty surgical services in the house when they come for traumatic care, a drastic improvement in patient quality and outcomes, as well as a wide range of services from children’s hospitals. workers. In addition, Jacobi will continue its active public education program on accident prevention through its specialized injury prevention coordinators by offering “Stop the Bleed”, seasonal safety training, and appropriate Emergency Department visits.
“In 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data showing that from this epidemic in 2020, gun-related injuries were the leading cause of death among children and youth 1 to 19. The Bronx in New York City has a population of over 350,000 children who did not have a pediatric facility. Our vision at NYC Health + Hospitals was to fill this void and need in our community and last year we were proud to be certified by the American College of Surgeons as a level II pediatric trauma center,” he said. Srinivas H Reddy, MD, FACS, Medical Director of Child Abuse at NYC Health + Hospitals / Jacobi | North Central Bronx.
“We are proud to be the only certified Child Abuse Center in the Bronx. This is an achievement worthy of great cooperation and demonstrates our administration’s commitment to putting the resources necessary to provide exceptional care to injured children throughout and the District.
